Two days ago, after several weeks where I had no time to even think to read something which was not work or TCM related, I finally downloaded an e-book from the library. When I opened the file and saw that it was over 500 pages, my first thought was “oh…cool” (you can add a big smiley after that). When the story is well crafted, I love staying so long with a book. It also saves me from having to choose another one from the library :p.
Interestingly it is often novels from US authors, which are so long. On the other hand, French or Italian authors seem to concentrate their stories in fewer words. One of my favourite author, Banana Yoshimoto, also keeps her novel short, I think the longest one was Amrita, a wonderful book which I can recommend.
Anyway, the end of the semester is approaching, my mind can now start focusing on other things and I am looking forward to immerge myself in A Tale for The Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. I never read anything from this author; I think I found her book through a library search with the keyword Japan or Asia.
Do you have any interesting East Asian writers to recommend? If they are Chinese, I can read them even if there are no English translation
